Yoga, which originated in ancient India, has now gained worldwide recognition. It now comes under the complementary alternative medicine (CAM) group and is practiced by numerous people. The United States has seen a surge in the number of people practicing yoga. With obesity being the major problem for many, yoga can be the best solution. Power yoga has got quite a good reputation among gym enthusiasts, when it comes to weight loss. For beginners, three times every week will be enough, with each session of 45 minutes duration. For advanced learners, a 90 minutes session is recommended.  You need to maintain a proper diet at the same time, if you want to lose weight effectively. Here are some helpful diet tips that you can follow while practicing power yoga.

  • Fruits and vegetables

Ample amount of fruits and vegetables always form a part of a good diet plan. Fruits will help you to lose weight and provide you with required energy. Vegetables are equally essential when you are doing power yoga. The water and fiber content in vegetables and fruits will add volume to your food and give a filling effect. This way, you will consume lesser calories and minimal fat.

  • Become a vegan

If you want, you can become a vegan, i.e. abstain from any kind of animal product. If strict veganism is what you have in mind, you have to completely avoid dairy products as well. However, it is not compulsory to become vegan, when you are doing power yoga. You can still have the desired effect on your weight, if you follow a diet which is balanced and has all the essential nutrients in it.

  • Avoid red meat

If you are not in the mood to go vegan, skip it. You can have white meat. Chicken, fish, etc. can be a part of your power yoga diet. However, make sure you avoid red meat, or else you will aggravate your obesity problem.

  • Eat smaller meals

If you have the habit of following full four course meal routine, you need to change it immediately. Instead opt for smaller meals throughout the entire day. This will keep your hunger at bay and you will consume lesser calories.

  • Regular water intake

Whether you are doing power yoga or any other form of exercise, this goes without saying. Water intake is one of the essential diet tips that you have to follow diligently. You need to drink water regularly to keep you hydrated and to flush out harmful toxins.

  • Get your trainer’s advice

This might not be a part of your diet plan, but it is the most helpful tip that you should follow. The best person to provide you with diet tips is your trainer. He/she will be able to specifically advise you on the food that you can eat, based on your body type. Instead of creating your own diet plan, it is always better to get your trainer’s advice.
