Experts agree that weight loss can enhance your general well-being and quality of life in many ways. American Heart Association states that obesity accounts for approximately 112,000 deaths every year. It further adds that obese people at greater risk of developing diseases such as stroke, heart disease, type 2-diabtestes and cancer. Though weight loss comes with various health benefits, losing the extra flab requires determination, patience and a strong attitude. You may follow a balanced diet, exercise regularly and still not lose weight. Here are few reasons why you have not yet managed to fulfill your weight loss goals.

Letting go of your diet during the weekend

Many people believe that it is ok to be conscious about the eating habits during the week and indulge when it is weekend time. Experts, however, believe that not sticking to your diet during the weekend can interfere with your weight loss goals. A recent study conducted by Washington University School of Medicine reveals that people who opted for a healthy diet throughout the week gained back all the weight, when they ate unhealthy food during the weekend. This in turn interfered with their weight loss and healthy living goals.

Speaking on this issue, Kathy McManus, Brigham and Women’s Hospital says,” When trying to lose those last few pounds, every calorie counts. By eating whatever you want for two days straight, it’s almost inevitable that you’ll undo the hard work you put in during the previous five.” This means that the trick to weight loss lies in sticking to your ideal calorie intake throughout the week.

No matter how you are feeling, you have to opt for exercises to lose weight

Wrong, say health experts. Speaking on this issue, Alejandro D. Chediak, who is associated with Miami Sleep Disorders Center states, “If you’re feeling truly exhausted, it’s more beneficial to ditch your workout.” He further explains that when you do not sleep well, the hormone levels change and this in turn, enhances the cravings for sweets and starches. You willingness to stick to your weight loss goals may suffer too.

In fact, a study conducted by experts at the University of Chicago revealed that people who suffered from poor sleep for one night increased their calorie-intake by 200 the next day. Therefore, if you are tired, skipping your workout routine for a day or two can be a healthy idea.

Will eating slowly help you to fulfill your weight loss goal?

Dietician and nutrition experts suggest eating slowly and savoring every bite. They believe that this strategy makes one consume less, thus helping the person to fulfill his or her weight loss goals. While this technique might work when you are eating alone, there are high chances that it will backfire when you are eating out with friends or colleagues. According to an article published in the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society, while dining with friends and family, most people increase their calorie intake by 40-70%.

Speaking on this issue, Collin Payne, who is associated with New Mexico State University, says, “People tend to eat more when they’re in pleasant surroundings, such as at a restaurant or dinner party. Socializing serves as a distraction, making it hard to monitor what’s on your plate.” For fulfilling your weight loss goals, Payne suggests making healthy choices beforehand. For example, before going out for dinner, decide whether you will opt for a glass of wine or have a bowl of soup. This will help you to enjoy your meal, without getting paranoid about calories.

While you are trying to lose fat, remember that certain weight loss strategies may not work for everyone and in every situation. This means that you may need to modify these strategies according to your requirements and lifestyle.
